What Is a VAT Calculator?
A VAT (Value Added Tax) calculator computes tax-exclusive (net), tax amount, and tax-inclusive (gross) figures. Used by businesses for invoicing and by consumers to understand their total costs.
How to Calculate VAT
Adding VAT (net → gross): VAT = Net × (Rate÷100) | Gross = Net + VAT
Removing VAT (gross → net): Net = Gross ÷ (1 + Rate÷100) | VAT = Gross − Net
Example at 20%: $1,000 net + 20% VAT = $1,200 gross. VAT = $200.
VAT Rates by Region
- UK: Standard 20%, reduced 5%, zero-rated 0%
- EU average: 20–25% standard rate
- US: Sales tax varies by state (0–10%)
